How to Choose an AI Ads Agency in 2026: The 6-Point Checklist
Most Shopify founders make a critical mistake when they look for an AI ads agency in 2026. The market is saturated with “AI experts” who popped up overnight. They will tell you everything you want to hear, and then they will burn your ad budget.
It is easy to get lost in the hype. Everyone is talking about AI. But very few agencies actually understand how to get your brand seen inside ChatGPT where buyers are asking before they buy (Securitymagazine, July 15, 2026). They try to force an old Google or Meta playbook onto a channel that behaves completely differently. That is not how you win.
You need to know what to look for. You need to demand specific things from anyone you trust with your ad spend. Here is the 6-point checklist I use when evaluating an AI ads agency for Shopify brands. This is what separates the noise from the actual results.

First, demand specialization in ChatGPT Ads only. This channel is too new, too unique, and too powerful to be a side project for generalists. If an agency claims to do “all AI marketing,” they are doing none of it well (PaidAi Search Blog, “How to Choose an AI Ads Agency in 2026,” July 18, 2026). Look for deep expertise in the platform, not broad, vague promises.
Second, insist on verifiable results. Anyone can show you a pretty case study. Ask for live campaign data. Demand to see the actual numbers they moved for other Shopify brands, not just big-name logos or testimonials. Look for specific CPA reductions or conversion rate increases on ChatGPT Ads.
Third, require a flat monthly retainer. No percentages of ad spend. No hidden setup fees that appear three months in. If an agency cannot give you a clear, fixed price for their service, they are not transparent (PaidAi Search Blog, “How to Choose an AI Ads Agency in 2026,” July 18, 2026). This channel is too volatile to tie their fee to your variable spend.
Fourth, they must offer full-stack attribution. How do they actually track a sale back to a ChatGPT ad? This is not as simple as dropping a pixel. Agentic commerce means buyers make decisions inside AI conversations (Search Engine Journal, July 16, 2026). If they cannot show you precisely how they measure conversions from ChatGPT, you will never know what is truly working.

Fifth, they need deep Shopify expertise. Your platform is unique. Your product pages, your checkout flow, your analytics - they all have specific requirements. An agency that understands Shopify can integrate seamlessly and optimize for your ecosystem. If they do not speak your platform’s language, they are not your partner.
Sixth, they must offer a real guarantee. They need skin in the game. The only guarantee that matters is this: if they do not beat your current Google or Meta CPA in month one, you do not pay them for that first month (PaidAi Search Blog, “How to Choose an AI Ads Agency in 2026,” July 18, 2026). This eliminates your risk and forces them to deliver.
ChatGPT is the new channel where buyers are asking before they purchase. It converts about twice as high as any other channel you are running. You are not on it yet. While it is still cheap. That window will not stay open forever. Do not let the wrong agency blow this opportunity for your Shopify store.
